Nathaniel Parker Willis’ detailed writings describe the images drawn by William Henry Bartlett during his travels to America in 1836. The drawing were engraved by several engravers in London where the books were published by George Virtue in 1840.

The books are in ok condition with a fair amount of foxing within the pages, particularly on the edges of the paper. The leather bound covers are a tan colour with red and black with gold writing on raised bands on the spine; tan corners and a dark brown front and back. The covers are worn but still in decent condition. There is some pencil writing on the first pages of the book, as can be seen. There is a blue label in the books form W. L. LaFrance Relieur Montreal.
